2011 awards

An ebullient arts community celebrated the 2011 ACC Awards at the Arts Theatre with Steve Saffell, CEO of Country Arts SA as guest presenter.

Despite the constrained economic times, Arts SA supported the continued cash awards which makes these the richest performing arts awards in Australia. This prestige also is supported by the Independent Arts Foundation's involvement as the sponsor of the Award for Innovation - a significant award which celebrates the ingenuity and originality the technical aspects of the performing arts.

The Circle's Chair, Peter Burdon, noted that the exceptionally high quality of the nominees this year was reflected in the fact that many have been nominated before.

"Guy Barrett, for example, for the RBS Morgans International Piano Series. David Mealor, a wonderful director and past winner. five.point.one theatre, State Theatre and State Opera, all outstanding ensembles," he said.

"Innovation in sound and design. And our stalwart amateurs, especially Critics Circle alumnus Russell Starke! Nomination as a finalist is a hard-won thing, and many times, the winner is decided by a single vote. 2011 was no exception."

The Critics Circle Awards, which consist of cash prizes as well as a trophy made by silversmith Christine Pyman, enjoy generous support from Coriole Wines, Coopers Brewery, Woodside Cheeses, Chesser Cellars and The Arts Theatre.
