In 2001, Coopers Brewery, always stalwart supporters of the arts in South Australia, enhanced the work of the Adelaide Critics Circle by sponsoring a much-needed and often requested award for outstanding work in the city's very vibrant Amateur Theatre world.

Coopers Beer is a family business and its hand-made beers are the pride of the State - an art form in themselves.

The city's amateur theatre critics joined the Circle and it was decided that the awards should be known as The Coopers.
